Welcome to the Summer 2024 issue!
“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.”
Kellie Elmore
“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”
William Shakespeare
Writer Kellie Elmore’s quote really resonates with me. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, I’ll never forget the joy and exhilaration I felt as I burst through the school doors after being dismissed on the last day of the term! I couldn’t wait to see what July and August would bring. One special memory revolves around summer nights. As darkness began to settle in at the end of each day, the heat and humidity always wrapped itself around me like a warm and comforting blanket. Even sounds seemed muffled, bringing a peace and quiet unique to summer evenings.
Of course, summer vacation always flew by too quickly. Mr. Shakespeare certainly had that right.
May the coming summer days and nights be kind to you and yours!

Legacy Videos vs. Legacy Films: What’s the difference?
A client recently asked me to describe the difference between a legacy video and a legacy film. She explained that, during the search that led her to Family Legacy Video®, she’d seen companies using both terms.
My answer: There is no difference. They’re simply slightly different terms for the same thing.
FILM vs. DIGITAL VIDEO
Film has largely taken a back seat to digital video these days. In fact, since 2017, 92% of “Hollywood” films have been shot digitally. In 2018, only 24 major films were shot on 35mm.
In the early days of the medium, video offered resolution that was inferior to film. Digital video technology has evolved in leaps and bounds, however. Professional digital cinema cameras now offer quality that matches film. And unlike film, which requires developing, video files can be used right out of the camera, helping to streamline the production process, and save money.
A CINEMATIC APPROACH
Thanks to its economy and ease of production, I’ll hazard a guess that 100% of legacy productions, like those created by Family Legacy Video®, are currently produced using digital video from start to finish. If I’m wrong, I won’t be off by much.
So yes, we’re working with video. But Family Legacy Video® takes a very cinematic approach to our productions. Just like with a big budget movie, we plan our shoots carefully to make sure we capture the interviews and images required to tell YOUR story. Then, creative video editors transform the raw video and sound into high-end personal legacy videos using the same techniques employed in professional documentaries and films.
LEGACY VIDEO vs. LEGACY FILM
Why do some folks prefer to use the term “legacy film” rather than “legacy video?” It’s just marketing, really, banking on the idea that “film” has a greater cachet than “video.” But, in the “a rose by any other name” department, what matters is the final product. I can confidently guarantee that legacy “videos” from Family Legacy Video® compare more than favorably with legacy “films” by others.

A wonderful testimonial.
Family Legacy Video® recently enjoyed the honor and privilege of creating a legacy video for a gentleman in Phoenix, AZ. The client, who is the gentleman’s son, sent the following review:
“From the moment I spoke with Steve Pender on the phone about the prospect of doing my 88-year-old father’s legacy video, I was convinced that he and his team were the right people for the job. Steve is easy to work with and he was very good about checking in with me as the project progressed through its various stages. He was open to suggestions and even allowed me to include my own “self-produced” intro to the video along with music of my choosing. The results were – as you might expect – just outstanding! It felt like I was watching an A&E biography, the subject of which was my own father! If you’re thinking about doing something like this for your loved one, I strongly recommend Family Legacy Video®. You’ll get a professional and expertly edited and produced video that you’ll cherish forever.”
